PRF Blood Treatment

With advanced dental technologies, specifically in the form of our PRF Blood Machine, we are proud to be able to provide dental implant treatment of the highest standard.

Why might we suggest that we take blood from you?

There are a lot of different situations where we, as your dentist, might be concerned about the amount of bone you have in your jaws. For example, if you are considering having dental implants, it is important to have as much bone present as possible in order to obtain the most secure and aesthetically pleasing final result at the end of your treatment with us.

Unfortunately, there isn't always enough bone to get the best result so we might need to find a way to get some more. This can be done using processed animal bone (from cows, pigs or horses) or a man-made artificial form of bone. However, scientific research shows that the best results are obtained if you are the provider - which is why we might suggest that we take a small sample of blood from you.

What would this involve?

If you choose to have this special PRF treatment then a small amount of blood will be collected just before your surgery, we will centrifuge your blood and create a special high fibrin blood clot, called PRF, which can be used to create more bone and gum tissue. This special blood clot contains high concentrations of all of the most important components of a normal blood clot.

The benefits of this clot are that it will:

  • Protect your wound
  • Reduce post-operative pain
  • Promote healing
  • Decrease the risk of infection
  • Accelerate the formation of new bone

Only a small amount of blood is needed (same of blood as for blood tests) so you won't experience any tiredness or fatigue.

Why have this done?

Basically, because nothing is better than your own blood! Biomaterials (human, animal or man-made) can be used to help create more bone but no product can provide such a high concentration of all the important growth factors for your healing as efficiently and naturally as PRF using your own blood. Plus, there will be no adverse reactions or rejection because it is your own blood cells and protein being used.
